It was a great showing for the last day of Colorado Rush's alumni week. A fierce rivalry has been formed between the old guy team and the next team in line to move into the old guy rankings. During the transfer window opening last night, the old guys spent a pretty penny on USWNT player Lindsey Horan and coming back from the IR list, Colin Clark had an amazing showing for his first game back. Colorado Rush 18 academy showed up with numbers thinking youth and stamina would make a difference...It didn't.
Morgan Sacco's return from employed obscurity lifted the Mid-20's squad to a first place finish in league play. Flying high and in the prime of their lives the 25 to lifer's were playing the best football of the four teams on display. Controversy erupted in the final league game when the most notorious 25 to lifer's, Nick Cardangerous, cynically tackled Lindsey from behind during a fast break. Immediate flashbacks to yesterday's boiling point between Ridge and Lindsey entered the minds of all who were watching. Would Lindsey roll on the ground for 5 mins, then get up eye's red filled with "tears of anger" again? The answer was no, Cardangerous quickly diffused the situation with a well timed goofy laugh and claim of innocence. It was nice to see Lindsey show growth and maturity and not cry on the field today.
In the final there was only going to be one winner. The 'Oldies but Goodies' put together a dominant display highlighted by the wonderful attacking talent Warninho. Lindsey provided a well earned assist through hard work on the repress, and Collen cooly dispatched the finish through the defenders. We won't talk about Roger's meg on Paolo that everyone saw because that would be rude and he's paid a highly humiliating price once today already. The Old Guys win, again, and become champions of Alumni Week 2016. Until next year....
