A new venue, new faces, and another day of Alumni Week in the books. The Rush Alum found themselves in a new element with no walls and were able to get back to the roots of the game. Even more importantly, it allowed stoppages to rest while players went to retrieve balls. The group was definitely missing their fearless leader with Schulz organizing the group at the beginning. A 1.5hr session turned into only an hour of playing with the yahoos that were leading the charge....never the less the teams were formed and the games began.
There were 4 teams this time playing. Christmas came early for a handful of current Rush DA players as they were in attendance and got the luxury of experiencing an alumni week before they become official alumni. These youngins just don't know how #blessed they truly are. Some of the new faces included goal'a'plenty Zack Foxhoven, and the human tank Billy Lagreca. The legends Kiel and Rodger Espinoza also made a showing after hearing their AARP benefits did cover the Rush Alumni event.
The groups played a good amount of round robin games and there was some good soccer being played all around. After some tight matches in group play there were only 4 teams that were able to squeak into the Semi final round.... ;) It was Team Horan, vs Team Betsy on one field and The Old Guys vs the Young Guys on the other. Team Horan showed a dominant display winning, and the old guys put the young bucks to shame demonstrating how much these young peeps still have to grow. So then it came, the final was set, Yellow vs Green. There were intense moments in the game. Big save after big save. Good run after good run. The deadlock was broken late by the Fox (Zack) and gave team Horan the 1 - 0 lead. Not two seconds later, Jacob Lissek throws the ball down field to Nick Blanco who slides it into Janine Beckie for the tying goal. The two teams headed into extra time. The field rental was over at 5pm and the club was looking at incurring some overtime fees....but the green team said no to overages and knew it was time to end it. And end it they did by none other than Janine again with the game winning goal. The game ended 2-1 and the Green Team were the winners on the day. Green was very glad she was able to get her Canadian national clearance in time to play today.
Tomorrow is the last day of the best week of the year. Same place and same time as today (Foothills Indoor, 3:30PM). Akio Ohtake-Gordon is rumored to be making an appearance and maybe a surprise appearance from the one and only Wes Hart? Tune in....you know what they say, save the best day for last. #RAW #RUID
